This year’s charity will be the Community Read and Feed program. The Community Read and Feed program is offered three days a week during the summer months. Participating children receive a meal and help / guidance with their reading ability. The goal of the program is to assist with basic learning skills while focusing on practical methods and techniques that enhance functional reading abilities.
For the past five summers this 501c3 organization has served the children of the Powell Neighborhood in South Brevard. In 2011 the Community Read and Feed program served 40 children and has grown to now serving 125 children. This organization depends solely on donations from our community.
This program was selected as the 2016 Mix & Mingle Jingle beneficiary in honor of longtime community leader Pam Gillespie, who retired in 2016. Pam has diligently served as a mentor for the Community Read and Feed program and is passionate about meeting the needs of the children in the Powell Neighborhood.
